IPL Photofacial

Clear Lake Dermatologists Serve Patients Requiring IPL Photofacial Treatment in Webster, League City, Friendswood and Pasadena, TX

People with uneven skin tones, minor wrinkles, or patches of discoloration now have a new treatment option–IPL photofacial. This procedure involves the use of intense pulsed light to target certain pigments deep within the layers of the skin. Clear Lake Dermatology can perform an IPL photofacial on patients in Pasadena, TX, and League City, TX.

IPL Photofacial Procedure

Before undergoing an IPL photofacial, the patient should discuss his or her goals and medical history with our doctors.

During the procedure, a device that emits light beams is run over the surface of the skin, which stimulates the production of collagen. Most treatment sessions take around 30 minutes to complete, and a series of four to five treatments are normally needed to obtain maximum results. These treatments are scheduled approximately six weeks apart in most cases. The skin continues to show improvement after each series of treatments, with maximum results obtained in approximately six months.

During the procedure, patients may feel as though rubber bands are being snapped against the skin, but this feeling subsides after the treatment is complete.

IPL Photofacial Post-Treatment

Shortly after an IPL photofacial, patients may experience redness and swelling in the treated area. Some minor bruising is also common and normally goes away after only a few days. Patients who experience extreme itching and burning after an IPL photofacial should consult with our doctors as soon as possible.

The effects of an IPL photofacial normally last around two years, after which time another series of treatments may be needed. The same results cannot be guaranteed during subsequent treatments, as the skin continues to age even though collagen production is stimulated. Those who suffered severe side effects during their first series of treatments should forgo having another round of IPL photofacials.
